Making the most of University or College

There’s a lot to take in when you first go away to college or university. The first few weeks can fly by in something of a blur but as you begin to settle into your new life, here are some great ways of making the most of your time during this exciting time:

  1. Remember why you’re there

It’s too easy to get stressed out over deadlines and approaching exams but try to reconnect with why you’re there in the first place when things start to get too much. Hopefully you have a passion for your subject and love to learn. This is your chance to dive deep into a subject you love so embrace the opportunities available to attend seminars, guest lecturers and all the fabulous resources at your fingertips.

  1. Make new friends

You will meet so many new people from all walks of life so it’s the perfect opportunity to make new life-long friends with similar interests. You might never have the chance again to be surrounded by so many people from which to share experiences, draw inspiration from and learn from. You’ll find international students, mature students and all kind of students in between.

  1. Don’t neglect yourself or your accommodation

To stay in tip top condition, don’t forget to eat plenty of fruit and veg, don’t skip meals and try not to drink to excess. The better you take care of yourself, physically and mentally, the more able you’ll be to enjoy everything Uni has to offer and throw yourself 100% into your studies. Get plenty of sleep, stay hydrated and make sure you’re registered with a local GP. Looking after yourself also means keeping your accommodation warm, comfortable, clean and safe. 1. Get involved in a society

You’ll discover a huge array of societies and organisations to get involved with, some whacky and some political. Whatever you’re into, you’ll be sure to find a society for it and if not, why not start your own? They are a great way of meeting people from outside your course, are tons of fun and any organisational skills you pick up will look great on your CV.

  1. Enjoy your time

Uni or college is about getting a great education and having a great time too. There are loads of activities, socials and themed nights across the town or city and in your student union, so you’ll never be short of somewhere to go and socialise. Making sure you have fun is the perfect antidote to all that hard work studying and a necessary chance to unwind and de-stress.
