What You Can Do in the Garden in the Winter to Get it Ready for the Summer

Your garden is your personal space to make your own. A garden is a place to relax and enjoy spending time in and therefore you want to make sure that you have surroundings that relax you. Spending time outside in nature is a great way to calm down, and although the garden is not really going to be a place you can spend time in much in the winter, the winter is the ideal time to get on with lots of garden jobs that can help you create your restful garden sanctuary ready for the springtime and the arrival of the warmer weather.

Whilst nature settles down to sleep, now is the time to plant bulbs ready for the spring. Daffodils, Iris and Tulips can all be planted in the ground at this time of the year and will arrive in the springtime giving you a beautiful garden display.

Plant care is important at this time of the year too. Move tender plants to a place where they won’t be harmed by the low temperatures and cut back any overgrown bushes or trees.

As well as sculpture, you can add things like garden mirrors to a patio area to give that sense of space, and also decorative paving and stone ornaments. Now is also a good time to get on with a garden project – you might want to add a structure to the garden like a summerhouse for example where you can spend time chilling with a book, or you might want to add a garden shed for additional storage. Getting this done now means that you will have it ready for when the time comes to make the most use of the garden, and it is also handy for storing things like garden furniture, tools and play equipment through the winter to stop it from getting damaged by the bad weather.
