Extreme Security

If you’ve ever locked yourself out or completely lost a set of keys, you’ll appreciate how frustrating and often cold it can be it, while you figure out what you’re going to do about it. You might be able to find a way to break into your property, if you’ve left a window open for example. In the past, you may have had to smash a glass panel to get in – which is not ideal as you then need a glazier when you could have just called a locksmith instead and made much less mess. For a Belfast Locksmith, visit http://www.belfastlocksmiths247.co.uk/. If, however, you decide you need to break into one of the following buildings, you might not find it so easy! Why you’d want to is anybody’s guess but here are some of the most secure locations on the planet:

Cheyenne Mountain Facility – this is a military facility based just outside of Colorado Springs in the U.S. It is the command, control, communication and intelligence centre for the U.S Space Command missions and the North American Aerospace Defence Command. Phew! No wonder you can’t just wander in. It is said to be strong enough to handle a 30 megaton nuclear detonation. It’s blast doors weigh 25 tons each so not much chance of breaking in here.

Bank of England Gold Vault – located underneath Threadneedle Street in London, the vaults are gigantic and the floor space is greater than London’s tallest building! To open the vault doors you would need keys that are 3 feet long and a spoken password for the doors to open. Not too much is known about the vaults but the walls are bombproof.

Area 51 – this is one of the most heavily guarded military bases in the world and is the focus of many conspiracy theories. It sits on 90,000 acres but there aren’t that many buildings there which is why some think that the real stuff is going on underground. The facility was left off maps for many years and even though the base is surrounded by desert, the government doesn’t allow anyone near it. Commuters traveling to the base do so in unmarked aircraft and no other planes than these can fly over the base. The borders are marked with danger signs warning of deadly force if trespassing occurs. There are also movement detecting sensors around the perimeter. Nobody has successfully infiltrated Area 51 and the site remains a mystery.

Federal Reserve Bank of New York – forget Fort Knox, this is a vault so impenetrable that it’s trusted to hold more gold bullion than Fort Knox. Windows are covered by iron bars and armed guards circle the building constantly. The vault was lowered into the bedrock beneath the city in 1921 and is surrounded by solid rock on all sides. There is a small passageway cut into a steel cylinder with additional bolts locking it into place. Timers prevent it being opened more than once a day and the system works through power and computer blackouts too. Nobody has ever tried to rob the vault and we can see why!
