Entries invited for the Mirror’s Animal Hero Awards

It’s nearly time for the Mirror’s Animal Hero Awards, hosted by Amanda Holden. The presenter is urging pet owners or anyone with a special animal in their life to nominate their furry or feathered friends for the UK’s top animal awards show. There are also awards dedicated to those who spend their lives improving animal welfare in all manner of ways.

Host Amanda Holden excited for return to the Awards

Amanda said “I love these awards, and I’m thrilled to be back again this year. The stories of people who dedicate themselves to animal welfare, and the courage of the animals, are inspirational. And of course we need people to tell us about them. So I’d urge everyone to nominate their heroes today”. Winners at last year’s ceremony included PD Finn the police dog, who almost died after being stabbed by a robber.

A nation of animal lovers

More of us in the UK have pets than ever, meaning a whole new host of animal services are required to help us care for our pets whilst juggling busy lifestyles. There has been a huge increase in the number of dog grooming parlours in recent years, for example, with most towns being home to several. This would have been unthinkable even 10 years ago when grooming parlours were few and far between.

There are also far more doggy day care centres and dog walking services than ever before, making it easy to keep your dog happy and entertained even whilst you’re at work. For example, if you’re looking for dog day care in Surrey, check out reputable firms such as https://nestledownboardingkennels.co.uk/. Dog care centres will also walk your dog for you, ensuring they get adequate exercise even when you’re not at home. Whilst the exact amount of walking your dog needs will depend on its age, size and breed, almost all dogs will need walking at least once or twice a day, according to the Kennel Club.

The awards show will take place in September. All the winners will be carefully chosen from thousands of entrants by a special judging panel. The panel is made up of a number of experts and those with special interest in animal welfare, including campaigners. This glamorous ceremony will be held at London’s Grosvenor House.
