It’s nearly time for the Mirror’s Animal Hero Awards, hosted by Amanda Holden. The presenter is urging pet owners or anyone with a special animal in their life to nominate their furry or feathered friends for the UK’s top animal awards show. There are also awards dedicated to those who spend their lives improving animal welfare in all manner of ways.

Amanda said “I love these awards, and I’m thrilled to be back again this year. The stories of people who dedicate themselves to animal welfare, and the courage of the animals, are inspirational. And of course we need people to tell us about them. So I’d urge everyone to nominate their heroes today”. Winners at last year’s ceremony included PD Finn the police dog, who almost died after being stabbed by a robber.
