Nestled in the Dame street of Dublin is one of the city’s many jewels. It is the Olympia Theatre and it has been playing host to some of the most talented and brilliant acts ever to grace the world of entertainment. It began life as Connells Monster Saloon in 1855 and after changing its name several times it finally landed on Olympia in 1923 which it remains to this day. The list of acts that have graced it’s stage is diverse and deeply impressive. This is a place where Laurel and Hardy performed in Ireland and where Radiohead have played. REM at the heights of their fame had a 5 night residency. Dermot Morgan or Father Ted as he is more widely known record a live show here and many other greats of comedy such as Billy Connelly have performed there.
The theatre still maintains a traditional pantomime and less high profile performance throughout the year. They have also stayed true to the Irish roots supporting home grown talent with a spirited performance of Cinderella starring Jedward and even given the twins their own panto Jedward and the Beanstalk.
The interior of the Olyimoia is opulent and vast following its refurbishment in 2016, where it was incredibly able to stay open. It is the go to place for high profile high quality entertainment in Ireland and Dublin plus its location just off Temple Bar makes it perfect for bars and Restaurants near Olympia Theatre that you can see in the link. A trip to Ireland’s vibrant capital is not complete with a visit.
